My baking partner-in-crime, Donna, came over to make these with me. We decided to use a medium size pretzel with mini Oreos, but you could use the big pretzels with the regular size Oreos too.
Also, notice all the cool dipping utensils in my repertoire. These are all courtesy of my mother-in-law. I found the two-prong dipper very useful in dipping pretzels.
We would need one mini Oreo split in half for the eyes, 2 pieces of black licorice for the owl eyebrows, 2 chips (any flavor - we used peanut butter chips) for eyes, one black jellybean for a nose, and 6 thin pieces of licorice for talons (these were cut by hand and a little bit of work!)
We used more candy coating for the white parts of the eyes that would hold the chips.
After dipping a pretzel, it needed a good dripping before plopping it down on a piece of waxed paper for assembly.
Then add the jellybean beak and the talons.
Let dry.
Wise owls are the perfect treat for an academic team.
Word is they loved them.
